...Gave Proof Through The Night

Updated: Aug 30, 2019

Yes, our flag is still there, waving in all its glory during our Independence celebration yesterday. We had a beautiful and peaceful 4th of July and it was fun to see our big neighborhood celebrating it with friends, family, and TONS of fireworks! Summer, to me, means fireworks and they normally start somewhere near the end of June and can continue sometimes for weeks AFTER the 4th of July. It's just what it is!

Summer means a lot of things to a lot of people. Growing up, it meant NO SCHOOL, swimming at the community pool Monday-Friday and only coming home for lunch-we had a park across the street from us so it was easy to just pop home and eat something, then of course head back up to the pool. It meant staying outside at night playing Army, Hide-n-Seek, Ghost In the Graveyard, or catching lightning bugs. We always had friends staying the night and our childhood home had a enclosed porch and we would all sleep out there! We would occasionally bring fans out there, but to be honest, I don't recall ever being bothered by the heat/humidity as I am today. Summer also meant vacations for some and cook outs with neighbors for many. But for me, one of my fondest summer memories was sitting on our sloped driveway every 4th of July and looking down towards the end of my street and watching the local drive-in theater shoot off gorgeous, big, phenomenal fireworks. I remember our neighbors would all join us and we would sit there in anticipation, waiting to hear the first BIG BOOM and boy was it loud! I didn't realize how lucky I was at the time to be able to have this light show in my back yard, but it was amazing!

One of the perks to living here in Union is being 3 minutes from our local grade and high school campus. The high school actually sits up on a hill and for the past several years Bill and I (and sometimes the kids) would drive up at twilight in his pick up truck and depending on the weather, tail gate and watch the fireworks display all across the town of Union. It's amazing to be able to see sooooo many fireworks! Some are just neighborhood parties and a few are big community displays. All I know is that there is A LOT of money to be made and spent in fireworks! And every year we always see something new and different! And this is what I tried to "capture" on my phone camera last night!

The one above with the big moon is actually from our deck in our back yard. A neighbor behind us had some very pretty boomers, but we weren't able to see all of it with the trees. That's okay, the moon gave a nice glow to the picture :). I've said it a couple of times, but wouldn't it be wild to be in an airplane watching all the fireworks?!?!

Well, this morning I headed out to feed the birds and was warmly and stickily greeted with this...

Can you just SEE the humUGity?? It is so thick. Again, I don't recall ever being so bothered by this when I was a kid, but now, I live for an air conditioned house! You can even see it accumulating on this hummingbird feeder! No, that's not morning dew lol. That is SUMMER weather...Welcome July!
